Rain

Wow, it’s been raining pretty much non-stop for the last couple of days. When all is said and done we’re supposed to have anywhere from 5-8 inches of rain since Friday. As I was going to bed last night I saw this puddle in the front yard and the street lights glowing. Thought it made a nice scene.

Who!

As I was pulling up to the house tonight there was a Barred Owl sitting on the fence! I ran inside to get my camera and went back out to get some shots. It was really getting dark so the ISO is quite high and I was shooting handheld with the 100-400. After firing off a whole lot of shots I ran back in to get my 100mm 2.8 macro lens. That helped as the light got even worse but out of a couple hundred shots I got some keepers. I’ve really been wanting to get some owl shots in the wild. Just didn’t expect it to be in the backyard. He didn’t seem to mind me taking the photos either. I was able to get within around six feet of him but I backed off and let him be. He’s still out there now an hour later.

Randy’s House of BBQ

It has been a very wet, damp and stormy day, pretty crappy in general. A big storm moved through, tornado sirens going off so we had to spend time in the basement. What really got me was people of Facebook complaining about the local television station interrupting Days of Our Lives to show the storm track. Never mind that an actual tornado touched down and damaged some homes. Never mind that the tornado passed over where I live and was continuing north. Oh no how dare they interrupt Days of Our Lives. Wankers!

Regardless, earlier I had lunch with my son at Randy’s House of BBQ which is less than a quarter mile from my house. They have excellent barbeque and I hadn’t been there in a while. Since the weather wasn’t cooperating I didn’t get out to take pictures like I wanted but was carrying my camera and got this shot of an old sign inside the restaurant.

A day out taking photos

Seems like all I’ve been photographing lately are the STL250 birthday cakes so I decided to get up early and do some sunrise shots. There has been some great fog all week long when I’ve driven to work but of course this morning when I have the time to do some shots nothing. But I did manage to get a decent shot with the sun just showing through the break in the clouds. After that it was off to the flea market in Belleville and the Oktoberfest celebration after that. Here is the sunrise shot and links to some flea market photos.
